The chants of “Brooklynnnnn” in the Barclays Center just got a whole lot louder for next season. Late last night the Celtics and Brooklyn Nets stole the show on draft night as the two teams announced a blockbuster trade. Kevin Garnett & Paul Pierce are headed to Brooklyn to play for new head coach Jason Kidd. This deal was rumored to be building steam earlier in the week and suddenly things escalated quickly. Along with KG & Pierce, the Nets also get Jason Terry while the Celtics received 3 1st round draft picks over the next few years along with Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, and a few other role players. That means you will officially see Kanye & Kim Kardashian courtside for Nets games more often now that Humphries is gone, lol. Read more and watch the video after the jump.
I am still wrapping my brain around this deal. I feel the Nets gave up alot for two future hall of fame players who are past their prime. The starting five of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Pierce, KG & Brook Lopez looks great on paper, but I do not see it resulting in the Nets reaching the NBA finals. In a year or two, KG & Pierce will retire and if this new team didn’t win, then this trade will be all for nothing. Meanwhile the Celtics obviously are in rebuilding mode and starting from scratch. Even though I personally hate the Celtics, I would of liked to see Pierce retire there since he has been there since 1997. We want to hear from Nets fans, how do you feel about this trade for your team? This instantly makes the Nets a serious contender in the east for this upcoming season, but who knows after that. The odds of the Nets winning the NBA title literally doubled last night after the trade. Check the video below.
